Student Visa

Students who wish to further their education in the UK may apply for a Student Visa.

This Visa category is only open to individuals who are aged 16 and above. Children who are aged 16 and under should apply for a Child Student Visa.

Your family members (partner or child under age 18) may accompany you to the UK if you are a full-time student on a postgraduate level course (RQF Level 7 or above) that lasts 9 months or longer. If you are a new Government-Sponsored student on a course that lasts longer than 6 months or a student on a Doctorate Extension Scheme, your family members will be able to apply to join you in the UK.

What Are The Eligibility Requirements To Apply For A Student Visa?

In order to be eligible for a Student Visa, you must:

  • Be a genuine student;
  • Have been offered a place on a course by a licensed student Sponsor;
  • Have a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies by a licensed student Sponsor;
  • Intend to study a course that meets the Course Requirements in Appendix Student of the Immigration Rules;
  • Have enough money to support yourself and pay for your course, unless you are from a country listed under the ‘differential evidence requirement’;
  • Satisfy the English Language requirement;
  • Have parental consent if you are aged 16 or 17;
  • Provide a valid Tuberculosis Certificate if you are travelling from a country listed in Appendix T of the Immigration Rules.

When Must I Apply For A Student Visa?

Once you have been offered a place on the course by a licensed student Sponsor, you will be assigned a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (“CAS”). It is important to note that you must apply for your Student Visa within 6 months of receiving your CAS.

If you are applying from outside the UK, you must apply for your Student Visa no earlier than 6 months before you start your course. If you are applying from within the UK, you must apply for your Student Visa no earlier than 3 months before you start your course.
