Global Talent Visa UK

The Global Talent Visa is a UK Immigration Category for talented and promising individuals in specific sectors wishing to work in the UK. The Global Talent Visa replaced the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) Visa on 20th February 2020.

A Global Talent Visa will enable you to work in the UK if you are a leader or potential leader in one of the following fields:

  1. Academia or Research;
  2. Arts and Culture;
  3. Digital Technology.

Can I switch to a Global Talent Visa if I am already in the UK?

If you are in the UK on some Points-Based System categories or have a Start-up or Innovator Visa you can switch to a Global Talent Visa.

Can I bring family members to the UK on a Global Talent Visa?

You can bring your spouse or partner and any dependent children to the UK with you.  You need to show that you have £608 per family member and pay the Immigration Healthcare Surcharge for each.

Procedure

This Application is in 2 stages:

STAGE 1 ENDORSEMENT

Standard Processing timeframe: 8 weeks

Before you can apply for a Global Talent Visa, you must first apply for an Endorsement to prove that you are a leader or potential leader in your field. You must gain an endorsement from one of six endorsing bodies engaged by the Home Office. 

In order to obtain Endorsement, an application must be submitted to one of the following Endorsing Bodies:

  • The Royal Society, for natural and medical sciences
  • The Royal Academy of Engineering, for engineering
  • The British Academy, for humanities and social sciences
  • Tech Nation, for digital technology
  • Arts Council England, for arts and culture
  • UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), for research applicants

Each Endorsing Body has specific requirements which you must meet before you can be endorsed as being a leader or potential leader in your field of expertise. 

STAGE 2 – HOME OFFICE IMMIGRATION APPLICATION

Once you have obtained an Endorsement, you can apply to enter the UK under the Global Talent category.

Standard Processing timeframe: 3 weeks*

*Can be expedited by paying an extra Home Office processing fee

  • Visa Length: 5 Years (maximum) [After 3 years, you may be eligible to apply for Settlement (also known as Indefinite Leave to Remain or ILR) under the Accelerated Settlement Scheme. After 5 Years, you can apply for British Citizenship]
  • Dependants become eligible for Settlement (also known as Indefinite Leave to Remain or ILR) after 5 Years.
