Representatives of overseas newspapers, news agencies and broadcasting organisations

An individual can enter the UK and work as a full time representative and employee of an overseas newspaper, news agency or broadcasting organisation provided that they do not undertake any additional employment whilst they are here. The representative must be competent in the English language to the required standard.

journalistDependants are entitled to accompany and stay with the representative provided that they can produce evidence to show that they are a financially stable and can continue to maintain themselves and any dependants without the need for assistance of public funds.

During your stay, you will have no recourse to public funds, and you must register with the police if required.

If the company's circumstances change and you have been in the UK for at least 2 years, you may continue to stay here as a sole representative and employee of an overseas newspaper, news agency or broadcasting organisation even if your company appoints a superior.

It is possible to apply for a settlement under this visa provided that they have resided in the UK for a total of five years. Once receiving Indefinite Leave to Remain status it is then possible after one year to apply for UK nationality.

This is also applicable to spouses, civil partners, unmarried or same sex partners or parents (if the applicant is a child under the age of 18 at the time of the application) in the UK.
