There are various entry categories that allow foreign nationals into the UK depending on several factors, including the reason for the visit and the individual’s financial status.
Tier 1 (General) Highly Skilled Workers
In December 2010, this category was closed to new applications. It now only exists as leave to remain for people already in the UK under this category.
Tier 1 Exceptional Talent
This category applies to individuals who are potential world-leading talent or internationally recognised world leaders in the arts or sciences.
Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur
This category applies to graduates who UK higher education institutions have identified as having developed world-class entrepreneurial skills or pioneering ideas.
Tier 1 Entrepreneurs
This category is for people who intend to invest £200,000 or more in the UK by establishing a new business or taking over an existing one.
Tier 1 Investors
This category applies to individuals who intend to invest £1,000,000 or more in the UK.
Tier 1 Post-Study Workers
Foreign nationals who have graduated in the UK and want to gain a higher qualification in the UK can apply under this category.
Tier 2 Sponsored Workers
This category applies to foreign nationals who are looking to work in the UK by being sponsored by a company.
Tier 5 Temporary Workers
This category is for temporary workers from outside the EU who want to undertake temporary employment in the UK via a licensed sponsor.
Under this category, domestic workers can be brought into the UK with their overseas employers when they visit or move to the country.
Overseas firms can send their employees to the UK as sole representatives of their firm without a work permit under this category.
Representative employees of overseas agencies or broadcasting organisations can enter the UK under this visa category.
ECAA - Ankara Agreement
Under the Ankara Agreement, Turkish nationals can apply to enter/stay in the UK in order to become self-employed and establish themselves in a business.
Turkish Worker Visa
A decision by the Association Council of the ECAA provides specified rights to Turkish nationals already legally working in the United Kingdom.
