New application centres for UK's super fast visa service
23 November 2014
The UK government has announced that the 24-hour priority visa service will be extended to attract a greater number of wealthy business leaders, investors and tourists to the UK.
The Super Priority Visa Service is currently offered to visitors from China and India, with the aim of addressing the needs of travellers who need to visit the UK urgently. Visa decisions are made within 24 hours, and all normal immigration criteria apply.
By April 2015, visitors from more countries will be able to use the Super Priority Visa Service:
+ South Africa
+ United Arab Emirates
New visa-processing centres will also be set up in New York and Paris. These seven locations have been chosen due to high demand from travellers and business leaders.
Prime Minister David Cameron commented: “As part of our long-term economic plan, we are determined to do everything we can to back business, support investment and create jobs... this new 24 hour service is another way we can help – it will persuade more business travellers, investors and tourists to visit Britain, to trade with Britain and to expand in Britain.”
This expansion will help to address the concerns frequently cited by businesses, academics and general visitors that the UK’s immigration procedures are lengthy and bureaucratic.
Currently, more than 100 priority applications a month are received from China and approximately 60 from India. The 24-hour service costs £600 more per application than the standard visa-processing fee.
